The Marine Information Alliance has evolved from the UK Marine Information Alliance. The following project formed an integral part of UKMIC’s activities.

Metocean Operational Data Network

The UK Marine Information Council (UKMIC) has a key objective to promote the development of the UK’s capability in operational ocean monitoring and forecasting and has taken concrete steps to realise a metocean operational network for the UK.

A study was commissioned by UKMIC to consider the issues in developing a linked network of all existing and planned future operational oceanography networks. These are defined as networks that are collecting or providing data in real or near real time rather than access to data archives. The first stage of the study developed a website that contains a map to existing networks, a specification of the data services being provided, and details of how the networks are currently being operated www.ukmarine.org/metocean.

Stage 2 reviewed different scenarios of how the networks may be linked together with a view to providing greater benefits, in the future, to the network organisations and their customers. To read the full report please click below, or right click and select save as to save onto your computer:
